Medea 1950

After studying Euripides' Greek tragedy Medea, I re-designed the main character of Medea from an historical decade, 1950, in a strict colour palette of gold.
Christian Dior’s ‘New Look’, along with Balenciaga, Charles James and Balmain were the prominent influences for the design work.
The character of Medea experiences trauma and heartache from her unfaithful husband during the play, resulting in her murdering fellow characters, including her children.

I wanted the dress to ooze glamour and sophistication, and having the dress in all the same shade of gold portrayed the power and wealth of Medea. The voluminous skirt was detachable, giving the gown another dimension and look.
